Support The Ecosystems That Support Us All

Natural Carbon Storage In Texas Ecosystems

In Texas, the vast majority of natural lands are privately owned. These lands remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air, reduce the severity of flooding and storm surges, nurture fisheries, and provide migratory bird habitat. The numerous benefits to society that these natural lands provide often go unnoticed until they are lost to development.

Texas Coastal Exchange (TCX) is educating the public about these ecosystem benefits, as well as providing a way for them to support local landowners and take action against climate change. Formed by Texans for Texans,  we are a nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to supporting the long-term resilience of the Texas coast by working with coastal landowners to conserve and protect coastal marshes, prairies, and bottomland hardwood forests.

Why It Works

Carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere by plants, which store carbon in their roots, wood, and in the soil for long periods
of time.

The Importance of Coastal Ecosystems
